Anna Bethune is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. Her research interests include civic engagement, education technologies, development economics and microfinance. She enjoys discussing and thinking about the systemic problems faced by developing countries, like Jamaica, and the ways in which education and technology further social inclusion and development. Before going to Northwestern, she worked as the Director of Social Entrepreneurship and Outreach at a Silicon Valley start-up. She designed and implemented a community outreach program and technology platform aimed at connecting local businesses with charities. While pursuing undergraduate studies at Stanford University, she researched the impact of micro-finance on consumption patterns and the living standards of a group of women receiving micro-credit in Mukono, Uganda. She graduated with a BA in Economics.
